Manufacturer: Sony
For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. The HDTVs also feature BRAVIA Engine 2 technology, which uses exclusive Sony algorithms to reduce visual noise and sharpen and enhance an already-striking dynamic contrast ratio. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Not bad
I have a 52" W model in the living room and bought a 40V5100 model for the bedroom. The W model is definitely worth the extra money when you look to get a it all.
The pros:
The 40V5100 overall just fine for my bedroom.
Picture quality is fine.
Tuner works great and picks up everything.
Menu is easy to navigate.
Enough inputs.
The cons:
The sound is has a lot of static noise at lower volumes, it's very annoying.
The stations don't change as fast as on the W model.
You can not edit the names of the stations.
Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a higher end TV.

Great for family room
This TV made for an awesome Christmas present, especially since I got an amazing Black Friday price on it. This is our first flat screen, and we have been very impressed with the picture quality, ease of use, and look of it hung up on our family room wall. We were a little surprised to find how much more we have to turn it up in order to hear well, but it's not any kind of dealbreaker. Overall, super pleased. Highly recommended.

Disappointed--must be a defective TV
I purchased this TV on a Sunday, was very impressed with the good price and the excellent reviews it had received, for the most part. The TV arrived by a box truck shipper on Wed at 7:30 AM, having been shipped from around 60 miles away. I had to run after the driver for his invoice, and he could only deliver it to the door without an "additional charge", but I was very happy with the speed of the delivery, carried it up the stairs, and happily set it up, expecting an upgrade from the 32" 720P Bravia I have watched for a couple of years, which is excellent and I have no gripes about, and was a big factor in "going SONY" with this one.
Unfortunately, the picture quality is poor, and I am going to send it back to SONY at their expense and they will replace it under the manufacturer's warranty within 5- 7 days of faxing them the receipt, which I did today. The problems with the TV are blurriness of numbers and images...the Olympics for example, were of a much better quality on the 2 yr old 32" ,720P Bravia than on this one. It is not extreme defect, but it is not "excellent HD" and the quality in important ways is similar to an old style television. I replaced the cable box, tried a new HDMI cord, and ran a newer DVD through it that should have had an excellent picture. Nothing was better. The words "stunning, and "amazing" that I've read in the reviews here certainly don't apply. There is also too much black in the picture, the black colors predominate. Hopefully this is a defective product and these will not be problems with the new one they send...if so, then I can't understand the other reviews here and I probably have forgone the "return" option (which would cost about 25% of the cost considering the restocking fee and shipping).
I must say the customer/tech support with SONY has been excellent so far, and I hope after the replacement arrives, I can write another review saying "the picture is stunning". If anyone has comments or suggestions I'd love to hear them.

Red flashing and some sound issues
This TV has pretty decent sound and picture, but is plagued by a few issues which could likely be resolved with a simple firmware update (if sony ever provides it)
I am talking about the "red flash" issue. This is actually an issue involving automatic jumping up and down of color temperature during normal operation of the set, but has garnered the name "red flashing" since it can become very noticeable during scenes with lots of red in the background as you can plainly see the colors getting brighter and dimmer at random times during the scene. Scenes with deep blue backgrounds (The Daily Show) can exhibit some pretty severe blue flashing at times too.
The sound pops and crackles a bit when you change channels on this TV, and there is a little barely audible fuzz and static on the built-in speakers. The sound on certain HDMI connected devices may not work if you turn them on before turning the TV on. I think these issues also boil down to the firmware.
The inputs on this TV are awesome, and the experience is otherwise great, and the price is very affordable.
If the above mentioned issues can be addressed by firmware (if only the red flash, since I find it most annoying) I will gladly upgrade my rating to 5 stars.

Sony KDL-40V5100
Received in excellent condition, mounted to wall with easy (and only needed one person). Has been an excellent choice in picture, sound and ease of use. Would recommend a PS3 to go with it for ease of accessing internet, and streaming video from Netflix. Haven't played any games on it yet, but sure with the picture quality already seen it will be a great time.

Great tv for the price
First of all, I would definitely recommend this tv. I debated for months between this tv and the LN52B630, but in the end the extra 60hz just wasn't worth the extra $$. It isn't a perfect tv, but at under B001U3Y8PY,000 it gives you the best bang for the buck. Here's my take:
The good:
1. Only 0 as an open box item from Amazon's Warehouse Deals
2. 6 days between order and delivery
3. Delivery was hassle free and they helped set it up
4. Picture is amazing and was great right out of the box
The neutral:
1. The tv has a small line in the bottom left corner of the screen. It's behind the surface of the screen but it doesn't appear to be dead pixels. It's only about 1/2" long and as thin as a pencil line. That's what you get for buying a used, open-box item, but it is barely noticeable and doesn't affect our viewing experience in the slightest.
The bad:
1. Let's talk about the speakers...I read every review I could find on this tv before buying and I came to the conclusion that there are some audiophiles out there that need perfect audio. I am not such a person. I enjoy movies, watching tv, and playing a few games on my xbox, but as long as the audio isn't noticeably bad it's always been acceptable. That said, out of the box the speakers were ok...kind of hollow-sounding and tinny, but acceptable. Within a week they started sounding a little worse and started making a sort of vibration sound when you turn it up to regular volume. I wasn't going to get a speaker system right away, but I decided it couldn't wait anymore so I bought the Sony HTCT100 system (5 stars by the way) which solved the problem.
All in all I think that this tv is a great value. 120hz would be nice, but it isn't necessary. If you do decide to buy this tv, I'd go ahead and get an external audio system if you don't have one already.

Beautiful TV but......
I recieved the TV and was very excited. It was beautiful! Three days later it decided to turn on and off on its own. Couldn't resolve the problem so I sent it back and bought a SONY

Really enjoying the experience
This is a great value and everyone loves the picture. It's got a sharp picture with fantastic color. I have made a few tweaks to get it how I like it (surprisingly found the tweaks I did on my own match almost exactly to the calibration settings recommended here by several reviewers). The sound is okay - but I agree with a lot of other reviewers that surround sound would make a vast improvement. I plan to get a new surround sound system soon - will not mess with the old system I have that has never worked right.
Delivery could not have been better. I got a call less than 48 hours after I had placed my order that they were ready to deliver. The delivery company was very accommodating to my schedule. We had extremely cold weather the day of delivery along with some bad roads; the company kept in contact with me to let me know when to expect delivery. Two men brought the TV in, unpacked it, set it up then explained they couldn't turn it on because of the extreme cold and advised me to wait at least 2 hours before I turned it on. I used that opportunity to go purchase an HDMI cable (not included, so be prepared if you don't have one) and a longer cable for my DVD player and was then AMAZED at the picture. Great product and fantastic service as usual from Amazon!

Beautiful picture; looks great! Four and a half stars
Received this last week, and finally got it mounted on the wall. Little experience so far with set, but will say this: the picture is big, bright, and beautiful!! Can't comment on the sound yet, since I mostly pipe everything through the A/V receiver. You'll probably want to tweak the video settings to get it just the way you want.
Some notes to those who might be interested:
1. HDMI and other inputs are nearly flush with back panel, and perpendicular to screen, so if you plan to wall-mount this, you'll want 90-degree cables or spring for a bunch of 90-degree adapters. Otherwise, your cables will be kinked hard against the wall, making it extremely difficult to mount flat and impossible if you want to tilt it downward slightly. Not an issue if you plan to use it on its stand. However, there is one set of side-mounted inputs (HDMI and composite only), which alleviates this problem somewhat.
2. It might be just me, or the mounting arms, but the set was off-level after mounting (off by 0.4 degrees) even though the wall support bracket was measured as level to 0.0 degrees when installed (measured with a digital level). Hard to determine where the fault is; the bracket might have shifted after mounting, or the mounting holes on the set were originally slightly misaligned. Either way, will have to shim to level.
3. Set does not have S-video inputs, important for those who might want to connect any older S-video components.
4. Very stylish design. High gloss bezel, will look great in any room. Matte screen eliminates glare.
Might be the best value in basic 52" LCD name-brand sets. Does not have internet capabilities, LED back lighting, nor 120/240 Hz refresh rates, but it'll be hard to beat this TV for value. In spite of lacking the aforementioned features, the picture is very bright and beautiful, with little noticeable lag. This is an IMPRESSIVE television.

Awesome TV
TV is awesome! Great picture, received very quickly even though an ice storm shut us down the week of delivery. I recommend to everyone.

Lovin' the eye candy
I've had this TV for over a year and I'm still blown away by the quality. Video quality is absolutely superb. Even the audio is on par or better than similar products. I use this for Blu-ray, PS3 gaming, external monitor for notebook, it works flawlessly for everything. I'm not going to go into all the Pros for this product, so many other reviews covered it all. The only Con that I have is that I didn't buy two. I will continue to trust Panasonic for the best plasma TVs that you'll find on the market.

white dust
Bought this tv about a month agao and love everything about it EXCEPT the white dust that accumulates on the screen everyday. It goes from a nice shiny black frame to a white one that looks like someone threw powder all over it.Does anyone know what causes this and how I can get rid of it.We have other TV's in the house that this does not happen to

GREAT
This product has been great. I am still learning how to use the full potential of the HD but otherwise the picture quality is great and the sound as well. I wish i would have known what a HDMI cable was and what it is used.

Panasonic Viera Plasma TV
I researched this purchase at length before buying. I read all of the rules, checked our budget then consulted with a family member who owned one. I couldn't be more happy with our purchase. It was exactly what I needed. The seller was great and the product was exactly as advertised. Super easy to hook up, even for a novice like me. Would highly recommend this product.

StdDeff Source Nice
Thought I would comment on Standard Definition (480i) source feeds. Had myself in a tizzy thinking the whole house audio/visual distribution system I designed in 1998 would have to be overhauled.
Composite (Yellow video, R/W audio RCA plugs) 480i feeds are upconverted by this unit nicely and produce a much richer picture compared to the 2003 Panasonic 42" SDTV plasma it replaced. While the "right" way to do the setup would be HDMI cables from the DVD players to the TV, I am very satisfied with the picture and saved myself a pile of work.
While of little interest to most, I am disappointed by Panasonic's lack of discrete IR codes for ON and FORMAT (ASPECT) in this unit. The Panasonic 42" has codes for Full, Just and Zoom I use in the Pronto universal remotes. Having to toggle my way to Zoom is a bother. OK, not important but this unit doesn't do something the old one does and that is not progress. Minus 1 Star.
If you have HD sources, do the HDMI work. If you don't, let the TV do the work and just enjoy your DVDs.
BTW - I bought this from TigerDirect, their customer service and shipping to Hawaii was terrible.
