DO NOT BUY - junk/fails after 12 mos w/ no Samsung support
Bought this player at the end of November 2008 along with a Samsung 52" HD LCD TV. Played all discs w/o problems for the past year - picture and audio quality was great on all discs until 1 month ago. Now player will only play blue-ray discs - which from some reviews I've seen it's lucky to do that. Attempts to play non-blu-ray discs present a "no disc" error. Have researched issue with Samsung & called Samsung support - followed their directions to upgrade firmware and reset settings to factory defaults - with no success. Samsung's remedy is for me to send it in to get it fixed at a cost of approx 0 !? (ridiculous since I can buy a brand new current unit from them or other manufacturuers that price!!!)
This issue is a known problem by Samsung yet they refuse to resolve it. Their forums have numerous complaints on this issue yet no remedy is offered to successfully resolve this problem - and responses/help just stops. They should have a single area/forum to focus on this problem but they do not. Their ignorance of this widespread issue w/ their product is criminal.
I am bitterly disappointed w/ tech support from Samsung & will not be buying any more of their products - back to Sony for me.

Can play only Blu-Ray disks and nothing else
After looking at the reviews, I was relieved to see that I'm not the only one who got screwed. My player plays only and I mean only Blu-Ray disks. Not one DVD works in this thing. I mean it is a Blu-Ray player, but come on! I lost a chunk of change and will never buy Samsung again.

I will never buy another Samsung again
Had problems with this player as soon as we took it out of the box. Every movie we put in there has a problem somewhere during the duration of the movie. I will never buy another Samsung product again.

This is terrible
This player will not play all blue Ray disks, even with all the firmware updates. DO NOT BUY IT!

Quality and Service Not That Good
I had bought this player back in November 2009. And I had more problems playing the Blu Ray DVD's than I ever wanted. First, as newer DVD's come out, you always have to check for new Firmware, which you have to always update your player with. Now, a few days after my 3 month warranty for labor expired, my Blu Ray player freezes on Blu Ray discs or has issues with not able to read a Blu Ray disc. But it plays a regular DVD fine. And on top of that, the player gets hot. After calling for service, for a 3 month old machine, they want to charge me over for the labor to fix a new machine, while the parts are free and there was nothing they can do. This is so absurd that a new machine can break so fast. Not happy with the player or Samsungs customer Service.

Beautiful TV but......
I recieved the TV and was very excited. It was beautiful! Three days later it decided to turn on and off on its own. Couldn't resolve the problem so I sent it back and bought a SONY

Really enjoying the experience
This is a great value and everyone loves the picture. It's got a sharp picture with fantastic color. I have made a few tweaks to get it how I like it (surprisingly found the tweaks I did on my own match almost exactly to the calibration settings recommended here by several reviewers). The sound is okay - but I agree with a lot of other reviewers that surround sound would make a vast improvement. I plan to get a new surround sound system soon - will not mess with the old system I have that has never worked right.
Delivery could not have been better. I got a call less than 48 hours after I had placed my order that they were ready to deliver. The delivery company was very accommodating to my schedule. We had extremely cold weather the day of delivery along with some bad roads; the company kept in contact with me to let me know when to expect delivery. Two men brought the TV in, unpacked it, set it up then explained they couldn't turn it on because of the extreme cold and advised me to wait at least 2 hours before I turned it on. I used that opportunity to go purchase an HDMI cable (not included, so be prepared if you don't have one) and a longer cable for my DVD player and was then AMAZED at the picture. Great product and fantastic service as usual from Amazon!

Beautiful picture; looks great! Four and a half stars
Received this last week, and finally got it mounted on the wall. Little experience so far with set, but will say this: the picture is big, bright, and beautiful!! Can't comment on the sound yet, since I mostly pipe everything through the A/V receiver. You'll probably want to tweak the video settings to get it just the way you want.
Some notes to those who might be interested:
1. HDMI and other inputs are nearly flush with back panel, and perpendicular to screen, so if you plan to wall-mount this, you'll want 90-degree cables or spring for a bunch of 90-degree adapters. Otherwise, your cables will be kinked hard against the wall, making it extremely difficult to mount flat and impossible if you want to tilt it downward slightly. Not an issue if you plan to use it on its stand. However, there is one set of side-mounted inputs (HDMI and composite only), which alleviates this problem somewhat.
2. It might be just me, or the mounting arms, but the set was off-level after mounting (off by 0.4 degrees) even though the wall support bracket was measured as level to 0.0 degrees when installed (measured with a digital level). Hard to determine where the fault is; the bracket might have shifted after mounting, or the mounting holes on the set were originally slightly misaligned. Either way, will have to shim to level.
3. Set does not have S-video inputs, important for those who might want to connect any older S-video components.
4. Very stylish design. High gloss bezel, will look great in any room. Matte screen eliminates glare.
Might be the best value in basic 52" LCD name-brand sets. Does not have internet capabilities, LED back lighting, nor 120/240 Hz refresh rates, but it'll be hard to beat this TV for value. In spite of lacking the aforementioned features, the picture is very bright and beautiful, with little noticeable lag. This is an IMPRESSIVE television.

Awesome TV
TV is awesome! Great picture, received very quickly even though an ice storm shut us down the week of delivery. I recommend to everyone.

WOW......WHAT A GREAT VALUE!!
I am very happy with this television...in the beginning I had a problem with the color, but quickly learned how to make it right. Once we connected the HDMI cable the picture was beautiful and once we connected the surrond sound it was amazing. Never thought I would be able to afford an LCD television at this size for this price. Make sure you get the warranty it will be worth it. We had a projection television we purchased about 4 years ago, didn't get a extended warranty, stoped working about a year ago. You can't go wrong with this television, it is a nice quality televison at a great price. This is my first Samsung television, I have two Vizio's and they are good quality televison also.

Nice!```
The new Sony 63 inch plasma arrived 4 days later. It was well Packaged and the package was easy to remove leaving the TV standing in an upright position. I mounted it on a tilting wall mount so I did have to remove the base. When lifting this item be prepared for at least two helpers. It is quite heavy. The picture is glorious. Bright vivid colors and deep blacks. The high definition is crystal clear. The sound is quite satifactory but could use slight improvement when using the internal speakers. I used a surround system which made this stuation go away. Frame and stand are a glossy black. This is my second flat screen from samsung. I have a 46 inch Lcd also and it is somewhere between excellent and perfect. My smart phone is a Samsung. and as you can see I am sold on the quality of their products. I cant give a review on their service though because I havent needed any!

Great TV - experienced a failure but Samsung repaired in home!
This TV has a spectacular picture - you won't be happy with a smaller TV once you've owned this one. Performance is 5 out of 5 stars.
I had a problem with the TV, though - the power supply failed after 6 weeks - that is why I rate it 4 stars instead of 5 However, it was repaired via in home service call within 4 days of contacting Samsung. The service man, a very nice and knowledgeable fellow working for an independent, locally owned TV/Satellite company, told me that many TV manufacturers do NOT provide in home warranty service ala Samsung, particularly to a rural town like I live in. Trying to take this TV somewhere would be a major project, requiring 2 people and a panel van (I doubt it would fit in any car or SUV - it is big!)so Samsung providing in home service in the unlikely event of failure is a huge benefit.
This is the second Samsung set I've owned - this was an upgrade from a 720p plasma, and I recommend this set highly.

Amazing
I received this t.v. on February 1,2010. We have since put approximately 225 hours on the panel. I had purchased the Panasonic 65s1 but canceled the order because i saw it side by side with this set at a big box store. The factors that went into my decision to get this set over the Panny were :
1. The ability to fine tune the calibration. This set is not as limited as the Panny
2. After getting some preliminary settings off the net and adjusting them in-store this set looked to my eye better than the Panny.
3. The ability to upgrade the software from a 550 to a 590 (in the service Menu) which enables the cinema smooth feature (which is sold as a feature on the 590) is huge. ( Do some research the exact directions are on a major A/V forum).
4. After doing in-depth research, it seems that the black levels which seem to be a step above on the panny regress, while the black levels on this set seem to get better.
5. This set has more HDMI inputs than the Panny.
6. Lastly, i did save money vs the Panny but this was the least deciding factor.
Since we have had the tv in the home we have loved it. My wife"s first words were those every man wants to hear, "It's so big". Ceva did a decent job delivering it in the snow, the driver did have it turned vertically on the truck, which concerned me greatly. The are several great threads which have helped me dial in my settings and help break -in this set. and for us the picture continues to get better.
For viewing:
Television: The shows i watch are absolutely amazing with the exception of the Digital Online Graphic that the three major networks are to ignorant to put in 16:9 aspect ratio. Fox is the only network that has the good sense to put it in the right place,(the lower right hand corner).
Sports: I have watched the Super Bowl, The Daytona 500, The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am,and some college basketball. This set absolutely shines and is aesthetically amazing watching sports. The shots CBS sports put up of the Ocean at the Pebble Beach Pro AM were nothing short of jaw-dropping.
Movies: I am using a Sony 460 Blu-Ray also purchased on Amazon and the picture is beyond explanation. The colors in The Dark Knight,The Passion of the Christ, and any other blu-ray i have watched are as appealing as being in the theater.
For it's ability to be adjusted and the plasma's known great picture ability i highly recommend this set, we at 225 panel hours are highly pleased. I will try and update around 500 hours.

Huge TV!
After months and months of checking various sites for a large plazma, I finally settled on this bohemeth and glad I did! The price from Amazon was several hundred dollars less than anywhere else. I ordered this on a Monday, and got it delivered on Friday with no problems. TV was sent via Pilot Air Freight, and the delivery guy was extremely nice and wouuld not accept a tip. I assisted him in getting it into the living room, where he unboxed it, plugged it in and made sure there was a picture. He offered to take the box away, but I opted to keep it just in case....
Connected my HDMI cable, and WOW! This TV has a great picture, very bright, extreme contrast and super color. For the price, I am extremely happy so far, and three weeks later, the set is working great! What I am not crazy about is the sound as it emits from the bottom, and I had to turn up the highs on the equalizer to prevent the voice from being muffled somewhat. For movies, it goes through my 1200 watt surround system, and it's like you are right there! I had this in time for the superbowl, and what a game on this beauty!
If you are looking for a very large plazma, go for this one! For the price, it can't be beat!

Simply Amazing
I give this product 5 Stars, because I simply cannot find a thing wrong with it after about 30 days of usage. The picture is amazing and is 3D like without any drawbacks. The colors are fanstatic and there are enough controls for picture quality to keep you busy fine tuning the set if that is your preference (but it works fine at default settings). I do suggest backing off on the contrast and cell lighting though.
I hesitated to buy Plasma due to most of the problems with that technology in the distant past. You have likely heard them all: Screen burn in, high power consumption and less durability than LCD. Plasma is a different ballgame now, those problems have been solved with the new plasma panels that came out recently sold by Panasonic, Samsung and LG.
Out of the box this set worked flawlessly. Samsungs new plug and play setup is great and gets you going in no time.
I have NOT experienced any buzzing or poping from the power supply that other reviewers have mentioned. I also find the TV speaker sound to be totally acceptable.
I have this set in my home theater setup using "basic" cable from Comcast and it does very well on SD and HD pictures. I use the TV speakers for cable and my home theater setup for movies. I have an HK 354 AVR with Bose Speakers and a Samsung Blu-Ray player and on Blu-Ray the picture is out of this world even up close. The Samsung Blu-Ray Remote also works the TV and Vice Versa. That's a nice touch.
If you are looking for a 60+ inch screen TV for a Home Theater you won't go wrong with this set and you will save some big bucks over the larger LCD/LED TV's out there.
Bottom line here, if you are on the fence for a large screen TV and undecided between LED/LCD and Plasma get the Samsung Plasma. Check the prices every day they seem to fluctuate frequently and don't be afraid to buy it here.
